A daily log of my experience with the famous and intimidating 10-day Master Cleanse/Lemonade Diet.

DAY 14: Final Thoughts

My adventure with the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet is officially over and it's been exciting and rewarding, I'm back to solid foods now. Don't try to eat solids again too soon, WORK YOUR WAY THERE each day. Post-cleanse dieting should go like this...

Day 11: drink watered down orange juice (half water, half juice). OJ has 120 calories per serving so that's why we water it down, but it's also good for getting your system used to "heavier" liquids than the lemonade and tea.

DAY 12: more OJ water and have a bowl of soup.

DAY 13: I didn't like the OJ much so I still drink the lemonade mix, but have more water. had a yogurt/granola late this morning and big fruit salad early this eve.

Thanks to everyone who cheered me on! No love for the haters though (kidding. kinda)!

DAY 10

Day 10 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. My LAST DAY but the liquid diet continues for the next few days as I ready to build my digestive system back up for solids. HEALTHIER solids.

END WEIGHT: 131lbs --- I lost 9.

DAY 9

Day 9 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Considering the idea of sticking to the cleanse a few more days and, in addition to the lemonade, doing more salt washes rather than tea (for more prodcive eliminations). So far 9lbs slimmer! ONE DAY LEFT!

DAY 8

Day 8 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Thinking ahead about how I plan to keep healthy changes in my diet post-cleanse. Also, urine is currently a really VIBRANT color (fyi). (tmi?).

DAY 7

Day 7 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Sleeping better and feeling partciularly well rested lately, also ENERGIZED after eliminations. No hunger pains! ONE WHOLE WEEK DOWN, 3 days left!

DAY 6

Day 6 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Remember to make sure you are keeping the proper measurements for the lemonade! If it tastes sweet, it's mixed wrong.

DAY 5

Day 5 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. HALFWAY THERE! Lots of random trips to the bathroom today resulting in mostly liquid eliminations. Ew.

DAY 4

Day 4 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Starting to get comments and remarks about a difference in my face. Also noticing the tea isn't as effective as I thought.

DAY 3

Day 3 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Alternating sips of water with the lemonade to help wash down the cayenne pepper taste.

DAY 2

Day 2 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. ARGH, I GOT THE MEASUREMENTS WRONG TODAY AND YESTERDAY. Make sure you have the right amounts of everything for the lemonade. Doublecheck!

DAY 1

Day 1 of the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet. Didn't get CRAZY hungry today just yet but when I started to, I noticed it was mostly coming from the habit of eating rather than actually wanting to eat. Just drinking more lemonade helps a lot. BE CAREFUL of the tea, let it take its time to kick in before you have more!

Prep: the Night Before

Preparing for the 10-day Master Cleanse/Lemonade Diet. 1 8oz cup of (hot) herbal laxative tea before bed, also did the "salt wash". 16oz glass of warm water with sea salt. This helps your body break apart whatever is clogged, it helps make room for the lemonade to start flushing your body.

START WEIGHT: 140lbs

What to Buy / What to Mix

The formula to do this cleanse right is specific but simple. Go to your local health food store (I went to Whole Foods) and get the following:

  • organic lemons. You'll need about 5 or 6 for each day's mix. It's ok to buy enough fro a few days but don't get all 10days worth cuz lemons will rot.
  • organic maple syrup - grade B. Not the regular kind you usually get to put on pancakes. Get a bigger jug if they have it, you'll use a lot.
  • cayenne pepper
  • fresh spring/distilled water. I just bought a Brita and kept refilling it, rather than buying a fresh jug each day.
  • herbal laxative tea. This is not part of the actual mixture but will be part of your nightly intake. I got Smooth Move by Traditional Medicinals. It's also OK to get a 2nd regular mint tea, any basic brand is fine.
  • sea salt. Also not part of the mixture but you'll use this on occassion like the tea.
  • lastly, get the book The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs, it gives lots of info about the cleanse history and walks you through important post-cleanse process.
There's another "improved" version of the cleanse that substitutes a combination of different nutrient palm syrups and for the usualy organic maple syrup, it's called The Super Neera Cleanse. I'm opting not to do this one, just b/c the syrup is hard to find unless you're buying it from their website. Keeping it oldschool up in hurr, mmkay?

You'll be drinking roughly 60 oz of the lemonade per day, rather than mixing the formula per glass, I just do enough for the whole day. Making the lemonade is easy:

12 tblspns of lemon juice (6 squeezed lemons)
12 tblspns of maple syrup (grade B)
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Dump into a 64 oz jug and fill the rest up with distilled spring water. Shake it all up and chug chug chug!

Intro

Welcome to the Master Cleanse / Lemonade Diet Blog. I'm Chris and I'm ready to change the way I eat. When I started researching this project I found lots of websites listing all kinds of info, history, and nutritional facts about the Cleanse, but I was suprised at how few sources were available for a person IN THE PROCESS. That's why I've started this blog.

THIS IS NOT A FACT-BASED WEBSITE. This is simply my personal experience with the 10-day Master Cleanse, what the process has been like for me, and what you might be able to expect and plan for if you're gonna do it too! Here you'll find daily video entries where I walk you through how things go for me. I didn't plan particular format or anything, so expect my feedback to be casual and informal with my own simple spin on things. If you're looking for more by-the-book intructions on the cleanse, check out the following links:

Also I found one other journal from someone doing the Cleanse, which was really helpful and funny to read. You can check it out here. Alright, let's get skinny! Oh, sorry. Right, we're not supposed to call this a "diet", it's a "cleanse". Riiight.
